5-13-18 Small Group Discussion Guide & Leader Tips

Dear Small Group Leaders of Christ Church,

On Sunday, our community lifted up the first miraculous sign of Jesus’ ministry in the gospel of John, turning water into wine, John 2:1-12.  Jesus’ unique relationship with his mother Mary and the meaning behind this great miracle are worth exploring in your group discussions this week as we strive to apply God’s word to our daily living in community.   The discussion guide is in the link below so that you can provide print outs for your group members at the meeting as well as send it out to them in advance via email. Please also be sure to include the link to the online sermon videos at www.christchurchsl.org/sermons as well.

Leader Tip #1- The smallgroupleaders.net site

I have made some progress in creating the automated email subscription method through the smallgroupleaders.net site, but it is not quite ready yet.  Hopefully soon, the weekly email will be of a nicer format and simpler to deliver weekly.  Also, in anticipation of my travels to Korea and Singapore this summer for my doctorate of ministry program, I will be starting a pastor’s blog and being more active on my Instagram page.  I’ll give you links on that when they are set up.  FYI- the trip dates are June 14- 30.th So I will be in Korea three days after the meeting between Present Trump and the President of North Korea in Singapore, and in Singapore about a week after the talks.  What an interesting time to be in both places!

Leader Tip #2- Getting Ready For Summer and Fall

Please do use your meeting time or group email discussion to solidify your meeting plans for this summer soon.  If you are going to take a break from meeting regularly in the summer, you may wish to identify some dates for one or two fellowship meal gatherings this summer, either in the evenings during the week or on the weekend.  Also, you may wish to announce your start up date in the Fall as well.  Usually, the first day of school in Fort Bend ISD is a calendar marker of sorts for the beginning of church programs in the fall.  That date is Wednesday August 15th.  So you may wish to start your fall semester as a small group during the week of Sunday August 19th.   Beginning that week, the church will be recruiting new people into small group ministry- both into existing groups and into new groups as well.  It would be great to have your existing group meeting in late August so that those interested can come and visit and see what the small group experience is like.  It is likely that completely new groups will not be starting until the week of Sunday September 9th, because starting a completely new group takes more time to organize and set up.

If you have questions about small group schedules or leadership questions or theology questions, please do send me an email so that I can discuss them with you all in the weekly email.  I hope you all have great community and discussions this week!

Peace and Grace,

Dan Conway
